Perci
June 2000 - July 2008
First I'd like to apologize for being MIA for about a month. Our house was in chaos laying the wood floor and then we got a new computer that I don't know how to use since it is an iMac and then me and the kids went on vacation for 2 weeks. I'll post about that later, but we got back in town last night to find our little rat terrier, Perci, in sad shape. Her belly was all bloated and we could feel hard lumps under her skin and she just wasn't herself. For those of you who know Perci, you know she is a very happy energetic dog, but last night she could barely get up off her pillow to greet us...it was quite heartbreaking. Daniel had warned me about a week ago that she was in bad shape, but working 7am-7pm didn't allow him time to take her to the vet. So today, as a family, we took her to get an x-ray and blood work done. Apparently her abdomen was full of fluid and from the x-ray we could see a giant mass (most likely a tumor). Daniel thinks she must have developed some type of cancer (in hind sight we see signs of her slowing down, but just attributed it to old age...not sickness). Instead of putting her through surgery and other extensive medical procedures we decided to let Perci pass on to doggie heaven where she will be free from her hurts. As we were all there at the vet, we all said our final good-byes and shed a few tears. Daniel tried to put on a brave face, but Perci was his first dog, and they had quite a bond. Daniel bought Perci during his Junior year of undergrad...the year before we got married, from a pet shop in Provo where he used to buy rats for his snakes. Perci and her brother were the last of a litter to be sold and Daniel would see her every week when he bought rats and finally couldn't stand it that she didn't have a home, so he brought me to the store to see her and to ask me to help train her if he bought her. So, anyway, they've been through a lot together. Now we just hope that Zoie doesn't go into severe depression as she realizes that Perci isn't coming home. It all seemed to happen so suddenly that it hasn't quite sunk in for all of us yet. Perci was a sweet dog and we miss her already!

I'm sorry for Perci's passing. She had a rough start with our family (as she was a VERY high energy puppy), but she became a sweet, lovable dog. The kids loved her. She will be missed!
Awww! I am so sad to hear that Perci is gone. I hope Zoie doesn't miss her too much!
We are so sorry to hear about Perci and her passing. We have had some great memories with her and she will be missed. It is hard to believe that she is gone. I know it must be hard for family. We hope the kids are doing okay with it along with her comrade Zoie. We loved her so much even though she pooped in my bed next to my face. She will be missed.
So sad Katie. I get pretty attached to animals and it made me teary-eyed just to read your blog.
We've missed you on your blog this past month! Glad your back and look forward to hearing about your vacation.
