The County Fair

Last weekend Daniel and I took the kids down to the county fair. We felt like such hicks, but it really was a good time. We saw lots of animals...which was Daniel's favorite part. He is now convinced that he was meant to be a farmer. We watched the "Air Dogs" show. It was pretty amusing to watch a bunch of dogs run down a dock and jump into a blow-up swimming pool. We decided that next year we ought to enter our black lab, Zoie. We also watched the hog races...which was really entertaining since they also raced baby goats and ducks. Tristan and Alicia really enjoyed all of the rides that went really fast and turned you upside down. Daniel lasted about 2 rides before he was about to lose his lunch and just ended up sending them on their own. While they were doing that, I took Adelaide into the barn where they basically had "a day in the life of a farmer". She got to wear a little apron and take around a basket to collect all of her "produce." She "fed" the chickens and got an "egg." She picked an "apple" off the cardboard tree, "harvested" a potato, green pepper, and a tomato. She "planted" a kernal of corn and then when we went to "water" it with an empty water can, she just looked at me like, "There's no water in that can, mom." She couldn't be fooled! She also got to "milk" a giant plastic cow with rubber utters. At the end she "sold" back everything in her basket for a "dollar" and got to buy a real ice-cream sandwich! I thought that was a pretty good deal! So basically we are now total Southerners who enjoy the local county fair!

Looks like so much fun. Lily would love the "Be a Farmer for the Day" area. Addi looks so cute in her apron (and hot - look at those rosy cheeks!).
